Chinese Valentine`s Day
Qixi, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, is one of the traditional festivals in China. Its origin comes from an ancient legend known as "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl" or "The Meeting of the Magpies".
According to the legend, the Weaver Girl was a celestial being in the heavens, while the Cowherd was a mortal in the human world. They fell in love and got married, but due to the difference between their worlds, they were forced to separate and couldn't be together. The Weaver Girl was compelled to return to the heavens, while the Cowherd remained in the human world. They missed each other deeply and prayed for divine mercy.
Moved by their devotion, the heavens granted them a chance to reunite on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, which is celebrated as Qixi Festival. On this day, a bridge made of magpies appears in the Milky Way, allowing the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl to meet and spend a romantic day together. According to the legend, it is only on this night that the Bridge of Magpies is formed, enabling their reunion.
As a result, Qixi Festival has become a symbol of love in Chinese culture, with couples expressing their love and celebrating on this day. Different regions have various customs and ways of celebration, such as writing letters, giving gifts, and going on dates. Additionally, people enjoy watching the Cowherd and Weaver Girl stars, represented by colorful paper ornaments, as a way to express blessings for a beautiful love.
